Welcome to the official FAQ. This section addresses common inquiries regarding gameplay features, future content, and technical status as of January 2026.


1. Development & Content

Will additional factions be added to the game?
  • Status: Active Development.
  • Following the inclusion of the Austrian Empire, the development team has shifted focus toward the "Age of Sail" expansion
    • "A boatload of new content is just over the horizon... we've even gone as far as introducing an entire new faction... Privateers are coming based on real sailors under the black flag." — Refleax (Game Director), August 2025
Will additional Cavalry classes (e.g., Lancers) be introduced?
  • Status: Unconfirmed.
  • While the community has expressed interest in lancers and specialized cavalry, Anvil Game Studios has not confirmed further development for this branch as of current milestones.
Will Naval warfare be updated?
  • Status: Confirmed Expansion.
  • The Age of Sail expansion (Q1 2026) is a major overhaul of the naval front. This update introduces the Privateer faction, the accordion instrument, and significant balance changes to maritime engagements.

2. Maps & World

Will "Dutch Canals" or "Port Nile" be brought back?
  • Dutch Canals: There are no plans to restore the original map. The team intends to reimagine its popular conceptual elements in future designs.
  • Port Nile: Returned. Port Nile was officially reintroduced to the rotation as of Game Version 2.19.
What is the current status of the map rotation?

As of Version 2.32, the rotation has been optimized to reduce repetitive map voting and improve weather randomization. Recent updates (December 2025) have added five new Scottish-themed maps to the rotation.


3. Technical & Platforms

Does Holdfast support server queues?
  • Status: Implemented.
  • Server queues were officially added in Game Version 2.22. Currently, queues are limited to 10 slots per server to encourage players to populate secondary or regional servers rather than waiting for a single full lobby.
Are Steam Achievements functional?
  • Status: Resolved.
  • The long-standing issues with Steam Achievements were addressed in the 2024–2025 update cycle. Recent patches have integrated achievements directly into the in-game Armoury, and the completion rate has returned to 100% functionality.
Is there cross-platform support?
  • Status: Supported.
  • Following the 2025 console launch, Holdfast supports cross-play between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A "Platform Manager" system has been implemented to ensure scalability across all hardware.
